The South Downs Network: working for the best possible National Park
The South Downs Network brings together, as members, voluntary and community organisations that support the two statutory purposes of the national park i.e.:
- The conservation and enhancement of the natural beauty, cultural heritage and wildlife of the national park area
- Promoting opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the national park area
Our aim is to further and promote these two statutory purposes by sharing relevant information, and by seeking to influence the relevant authorities
The Group has an Executive Committee of no more than 12 members. A maximum of seven places will be allocated to larger organisations, such as the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Wildlife Trusts, the South Downs Society, the National Trust, and The Ramblers. The remaining places will be selected by network organizations. The Executive Committee will consider all applications for membership.
As of October 2021, CPRE Sussex provides the secretariat for the Network.
We acknowledge that member organizations may not always take the same view and recognize that they will pursue their own campaigns. Whilst members may do their own work on issues of joint concern without first raising the matter with the Network, members are however encouraged to inform and liaise with others in the Network as soon as possible.
We will meet a minimum of twice a year, but in practice meeting quarterly is helpful.
